Cross-Border Flower Delivery: Sending a Bouquet to Russia From Another Country
Cross-border flower delivery means you place and pay for the order in one country and the bouquet is delivered to a person in another. Fresh flowers are not shipped across the border in a box: the order travels, and the bouquet is assembled and handed over in the recipient's city the same day or on the date you choose. With Pyat Tsvetov you can order from abroad, pay with a foreign bank card and have flowers delivered anywhere in Russia.
We have run flower shops in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and a large share of our orders comes from people living outside Russia: children in Germany sending flowers to their mother, colleagues in Kazakhstan, partners in the UK or the US. Their questions are almost always the same, so this article goes through them in order: payment, timing across time zones, addresses, the card, what happens if the recipient is out, and how to choose a bouquet you cannot see in person.
Why flowers do not travel across the border
The first thing customers from abroad ask is whether the bouquet is sent from their country. It is not, and that is a good thing. Cut flowers lose freshness within a day without water, and crossing a border with live plants means phytosanitary certificates, customs inspection and days of waiting. A rose that has sat in a parcel for three days arrives limp and with browned outer petals, no matter how well it was packed.
Cross-border delivery works because only the information moves: your choice of bouquet, the address, the time and the text of the card. The flowers are prepared fresh and delivered in Russia. For the recipient the result is a bouquet that stands for a week or more, not one that has to be revived in the bath.
This also removes a worry many senders have about import rules for plants. Some countries restrict certain flowers or require treatment against pests, but none of that applies when the bouquet never leaves Russia. You choose the flowers, and the only thing that crosses the border is your payment and your message.
Paying from abroad
The second question is always payment. On our site you can pay online by bank card, through SBP or with Yandex Pay. Foreign bank cards are accepted: payment goes through Robokassa, so a card issued in Europe, Asia or elsewhere can be used for the order. SBP and Yandex Pay are convenient if you also have a Russian card or a relative helps you pay.
City delivery costs 500 RUB. For suburbs and remote districts the operator confirms the price when confirming the order, so you know the full amount before anything is sent. Card payment is shown in roubles; your bank converts at its own rate, and it is worth checking with your bank whether it charges a fee for payments in foreign currency.
If a payment does not go through on the first attempt, the most common causes on the customer side are a bank blocking an unfamiliar foreign merchant or 3-D Secure confirmation timing out. Confirming the payment in your banking app and trying again usually solves it. For any question about an order, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05.

Timing across time zones
Russia spans eleven time zones, and this is where cross-border orders most often go wrong. Saint Petersburg and Moscow are on UTC+3, Yekaterinburg is two hours ahead of that, Novosibirsk four, Vladivostok seven. When you choose a delivery time, think in the recipient's local time, not yours. A sender in New York who picks 10:00 for a birthday in Novosibirsk without converting gets a bouquet in the middle of the recipient's working day, which may be fine, or may mean nobody is home.
In large cities you can choose express delivery, 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed, an exact time with a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes, or one of the windows 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 or 18-21. For a birthday or anniversary we recommend pre-ordering 1-30 days ahead: you avoid last-minute stress, and the morning slots, which are the most requested on holidays, are still available.
In Saint Petersburg delivery runs around the clock, which matters if you want flowers to arrive exactly at midnight on a birthday or early in the morning before the recipient leaves for work. For other cities, plan within the standard windows. If you are sending to a smaller town, our articles on sending flowers to Krasnokamsk from abroad and to Slavgorod show how timing works outside the big cities.
Address, phone and the card text
For a delivery in Russia the courier needs the city, street, building number, and for a flat the entrance (podyezd), floor and apartment number. An entry code for the door or intercom saves a lot of time, because many apartment blocks are locked. If the address is an office, give the company name and the floor; business centres often have a reception that will call the recipient down.
Always give the recipient's phone number. The courier calls about 15 minutes before arrival, so the person can come to the door or open the gate. Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender, which is useful for surprises and for romantic gifts. If you want the recipient to know immediately who sent the flowers, write it in the card.
The card with your text is free. You can write it in English or Russian. If the recipient reads only Russian, write the text in Russian yourself or keep it short and simple in English; our staff copy it exactly as you send it. Names, especially in Cyrillic, are worth double-checking, because a misspelled name is the one mistake a beautiful bouquet cannot hide.
If the recipient is not at home
This is the risk senders from abroad worry about most, since you cannot just pop round. If the recipient does not answer or is out, we agree a second delivery the same day, or with your consent the flowers are left with a neighbour or a concierge. We never leave a bouquet at the door without agreement.
To avoid the situation altogether, check the recipient's plans discreetly through a relative or colleague, choose a time window when they are certainly home, and add an alternative phone number of someone nearby. For offices, morning windows work best: by late afternoon people leave early, especially on Fridays and before holidays.
Choosing a bouquet you will not see in person
Customers ordering from abroad often ask what the bouquet will look like in real life. In our catalogue each bouquet is shown with its composition, so you can see which flowers are used and the approximate size. If you are unsure, choose a composition with seasonal flowers rather than a rare variety: they look their best and last longest in the vase.
For a mother or grandmother, chrysanthemums, alstroemeria, roses in soft colours and mixed bouquets are always welcome. For a partner, roses or peonies in season. For colleagues and business contacts, a compact, neat arrangement is better than a huge armful that has nowhere to stand. In Russia, flowers for a celebration are given in odd numbers; even numbers are for funerals, so for single-stem bouquets keep the count odd.
Full details on payment methods, zones and timing are on the delivery and payment page. For anything not covered there, call 8 (812) 507-67-05 and we will help you choose and agree the details.
