What a Flat Number Means for Flower Delivery to Russia

What a Flat Number Means for Flower Delivery to Russia

A flat number is the number identifying an individual apartment within a building; in American English, it is usually called an apartment number. If a flower order asks for a flat number, enter the recipient's apartment number, separately from the street and building number. For example, in the fictional address “10 Example Street, Flat 24”, the flat number is 24.

Customers ordering from abroad often have a street address copied from an old message and need to know which details belong where. At Pyat Tsvetov (5 Flowers), we have been helping customers send flowers since 2011, with three own flower shops in Saint Petersburg. For a delivery to an apartment, the useful starting point is a clear address, a working recipient phone number and any information needed to reach the right door.

Flat number, building number and floor: keep them separate

The building number identifies the property on the street, while the flat number identifies a home inside it. A floor number describes the level within the building and does not replace either of those details. For an illustrative address such as “10 Example Street, Building 2, Flat 24, Floor 5”, retain every part and its label. Entering 5 as the flat number would direct the courier to a different door, even though the street address was otherwise correct.

Russian addresses can also contain a building suffix, a block designation or a separate structure number. Preserve these details exactly as the recipient supplied them instead of shortening the address to the first number you see. If you are translating an address into English, keep the numbers attached to clear labels so their meaning survives the translation. An entrance number or intercom instruction should be an additional access detail, rather than being folded into the apartment number.

How to write a clear address for a bouquet

Start with the city, then the street name and complete building identifier, followed by the flat number. Add the entrance, floor and intercom instructions if you know them, keeping each detail distinct. A useful fictional example is “Saint Petersburg, 10 Example Street, Building 2, Flat 24; entrance 3; floor 5”. This format makes the relationship between the numbers clear without requiring the courier to interpret a string of unexplained digits.

Check the address against the recipient's own wording before placing the order, especially if you have copied it between languages or messaging apps. Keep any letter attached to the building number and avoid relying on a postcode to distinguish buildings within a complex. Include a phone number on which the recipient can actually be reached on the delivery day. Our guide to Russian phone numbers for flower delivery can help you check the format before submitting it.

What to do when you do not know the flat number

First check whether the missing number is already in a previous address, an invitation or a message from the recipient. If it is still unclear, asking for the full address is safer than guessing from a floor, entrance or photograph. A flat number cannot reliably be calculated from the building layout, because numbering differs between properties. If asking would spoil a surprise, explain which address details are missing when arranging the order so the uncertainty is visible from the start.

An incomplete address needs clarification; a recipient phone number does not make the missing flat number irrelevant. We call the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, but that call should not be treated as a guarantee that every address or access problem can be solved at the door. The recipient may be unavailable or unable to answer immediately. See our guide to a missing apartment number for this situation, and avoid inventing a number simply to fill an address field.

Plan access and the handover without spoiling the surprise

A correct flat number tells the courier where the recipient lives, but the building may still have a locked entrance or a separate intercom system. Pass on access instructions you know are current, including whether the intercom uses a different number from the apartment. Do not assume that a concierge is present or that a neighbour will be available to accept flowers. For a surprise, aim to keep the sender's identity private while still giving the recipient enough information to receive the delivery.

Delivery is anonymous by default: our courier does not name the sender. A card with your text is free, so check whether your wording or signature reveals who sent the bouquet before choosing what to write. If the recipient is not there, we agree a second delivery the same day or handing the flowers to a neighbour or concierge with the sender's consent. Neither option should be assumed in advance, and a neighbour's flat number should not replace the intended recipient's address.

Choose a delivery time that works for an apartment

Choose the timing around when the recipient can answer the phone and receive flowers at home. Express delivery in large cities is available within 1–2 hours after the order is confirmed, so the confirmation point matters when planning a surprise. Other options are an exact time within a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes, or the windows 09–12, 12–15, 15–18 and 18–21. A wider window may be easier to coordinate when someone is moving between work, travel and home.

Orders can be placed 1–30 days ahead, which gives you time to check an unfamiliar address before the occasion. When arranging a delivery from abroad, make the intended date and time at the Russian destination clear instead of relying on the time shown on your own device. In Saint Petersburg, delivery is available around the clock; this should not be assumed for other cities. Keep the recipient's routine in mind, since an early or late arrival still depends on someone being able to answer and accept the bouquet.

Order flowers to Russia and check the final details

Choose flowers from the bouquets catalogue, then review the recipient's name, city, street, full building identifier and flat number together. Read the address once as a complete instruction, checking that entrance and floor details have not been mistaken for the apartment number. Add a reachable recipient phone number and your card text, if wanted. Before submitting, check the delivery date as carefully as the address, particularly when ordering across time zones.

We deliver flowers across Russia, and city delivery costs 500 RUB. For remote districts and suburbs, the operator confirms the delivery price when confirming the order; check the delivery and payment information when planning. Online checkout uses CloudPayments, so check the options displayed there rather than assuming that a particular foreign card will be accepted. Frequently asked questions

Is a flat number the same as an apartment number?

Yes. “Flat number” is common in British English, while “apartment number” is common in American English; both identify the individual home within a building.

Should I enter the floor number in the flat number field?

No, enter the number of the recipient's apartment. Give the floor separately if you know it, because the floor and flat numbers identify different things.

What if the recipient lives in a house rather than a flat?

A separate house may have no flat number. Supply the complete street and house address, and do not invent an apartment number; clarify the address by phone if needed.

Can the flower delivery still be a surprise if the courier calls?

The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, so the delivery involves advance contact. The sender remains unnamed by default, although your free card can identify you if you choose.

Can I pay for flowers with a card issued outside Russia?

Online checkout uses CloudPayments. Check the payment options displayed at checkout, as acceptance of every foreign card is not guaranteed.
