Flower Arrangements Delivery: Choosing and Sending a Ready-to-Display Composition
Flower arrangement delivery means the florist sends a finished composition, usually in a box, basket or low container with floral foam, that the recipient can put on a table straight away without a vase. You choose the arrangement, give the address and a delivery time, add a card, and a courier brings it ready to display. Pyat Tsvetov has made arrangements in our own Saint Petersburg shops since 2011 and delivers them across Russia.
In the shop, the questions we hear most are practical: how an arrangement differs from a bouquet, how long it lasts, whether it survives transport and what the recipient has to do with it. This guide answers those questions in the order customers usually ask them, and then walks through ordering, timing and payment if you are sending from abroad.
Arrangement or bouquet: what customers usually ask first
The main difference is the base. A bouquet is a bunch of stems tied together and wrapped; it needs a vase and someone to trim the stems on arrival. An arrangement is built in a container, most often on wet floral foam, so every stem already has water and a fixed position. The recipient simply finds a place for it. This is why arrangements are the usual choice for offices, hospitals where flowers are allowed, hotel rooms and elderly relatives who may not have a suitable vase.
Arrangements also hold their shape better. In a bouquet, stems shift as they drink and the composition gradually loosens; in foam, the design stays as the florist made it. For celebrations where the flowers will be photographed, such as anniversaries, office openings or a table at a restaurant, this is a real advantage.
A bouquet still wins in some situations. It is easier to hand over in person, it feels more traditional on a date or at a theatre, and some people simply enjoy arranging flowers in their own vase. When customers cannot decide, we suggest thinking about the recipient rather than the occasion: a busy person or someone with little space will usually be happier with a box or basket.
Types of arrangements and where each one fits
Hat boxes are the most popular format: a round box with roses, eustoma, spray chrysanthemums or a seasonal mix arranged tightly on top. They look neat on a desk or a bedside table and travel well because the box protects the flowers. Square and rectangular boxes suit a more modern look and are often used for corporate gifts.
Baskets have a warmer, more generous feel. They suit anniversaries, birthdays of older relatives and congratulations to a family, and they can hold larger flowers such as hydrangeas, gerberas or long garden-style roses. A basket arrangement is heavier, so it is better delivered to a home or office than handed over in the street.
Low table compositions in ceramic or glass containers are a good choice for dinners, reception desks and events, where tall flowers would block the view. For business occasions, our article on flowers for a Russian office opening describes formats that work for ribbon-cutting and new premises. How to care for a delivered arrangement
The most important rule is to keep the foam wet. Once a day, slowly pour water into the foam near the base of the stems until it stops absorbing; a small glass is usually enough for a hat box, a little more for a basket. Do not take the flowers out of the foam to put them in a vase, because the stems are cut short and quickly lose water once removed.
Place the arrangement away from radiators, heaters, direct sunlight and bowls of fruit. Warm air dries the foam faster, and ripening fruit releases ethylene, which makes flowers age sooner. In a cool room, roses and eustoma in foam usually stay fresh for about a week, while chrysanthemums, carnations and alstroemeria last longer.
As individual flowers fade, gently pull them out and leave the rest; the arrangement will still look tidy. Many customers ask whether they can spray the petals. A light mist on hot days is fine for roses and greenery, but avoid spraying hydrangeas and gerberas directly, as wet petals on these flowers can spot.
Choosing flowers and colours for an arrangement
In a box or basket, flowers sit close together, so colour combinations show more clearly than in a loose bouquet. Two or three harmonious shades usually look better than many contrasting ones. White with green reads as fresh and formal, pastel pink and cream as tender, red with burgundy as passionate and festive, and yellow with orange as bright and friendly.
Texture matters as much as colour. A good arrangement mixes large focal flowers such as roses or hydrangea with smaller filler flowers and greenery, which give the composition depth. Eucalyptus, pistacia and ruscus also help the arrangement keep its shape as the flowers open over the following days.
If you are not sure what the recipient likes, choose seasonal flowers in calm tones and leave strongly scented varieties such as lilies for people you know well. For hospital wards, small rooms and offices, a lightly scented or unscented composition is the considerate choice. When the composition is for Russia, keep in mind that odd numbers of stems are customary for small bouquets; in arrangements with many flowers, nobody counts.
Ordering arrangement delivery in Russia from abroad
Choose an arrangement in our catalogue, enter the recipient's name, phone number and address, and write the text for the card, which is free. Payment is online on the site by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay, and foreign bank cards are accepted through Robokassa, so you can pay from any country. City delivery costs 500 RUB; for remote districts and suburbs the operator confirms the price when confirming the order.
In large cities, express delivery takes 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed. You can also choose an exact time with a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes, a window of 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 or 18-21, or pre-order 1 to 30 days ahead. In Saint Petersburg delivery is around the clock, which helps when you are in a different time zone and want the arrangement to arrive early in the morning or late in the evening.
The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival. If the recipient is out, we agree a second delivery the same day or, with your consent, leave the arrangement with a neighbour or the concierge. Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender, so if you want the recipient to know who it is from, sign the card. Full details are on the Delivery and payment page, and questions can be asked by phone at 8 (812) 507-67-05.
Timing tips for arrangements
For birthdays, anniversaries and business events it is best to pre-order with a time window. Morning delivery gives the recipient a full day to enjoy the flowers and lets colleagues or family see them. For offices, check the working hours and whether the building has a reception desk; a delivery at 09-12 on a weekday is usually the most reliable choice.
For holidays such as 8 March, Valentine's Day and the end of the school year, order a few days ahead, as these dates are the busiest of the year. For hospital deliveries, check visiting rules first: some wards do not accept flowers at all, and in that case a delivery home on the day of discharge is a better option.
