Flower Delivery Service: How to Send Flowers in Russia, Step by Step
A flower delivery service takes your order online, prepares the bouquet and brings it to the recipient's door at the time you choose. With Pyat Tsvetov you can send flowers across Russia: city delivery costs 500 RUB, express delivery in large cities takes 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed, and in Saint Petersburg we deliver around the clock.
We have run our own flower shops in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and many of our orders now come from people living abroad who want to surprise parents, friends or colleagues in Russia. This guide covers what they ask us most often: how timing works, what information the courier needs, how payment from a foreign card goes through, how to write the card, and how to choose flowers that will look right on arrival.
How an order moves from your screen to the recipient's door
You choose a bouquet in the catalogue, enter the recipient's name, phone number and address, pick the delivery time and write the card text. After you pay, the operator confirms the order; for remote districts and suburbs this is also when the delivery price is confirmed, because it depends on distance. Within the city, delivery costs 500 RUB.
The bouquet is then assembled and handed to the courier. About 15 minutes before arrival the courier calls the recipient to make sure someone is home and to check the entrance, the floor or the intercom code. If the recipient cannot be reached or is out, we agree a second delivery the same day or, with your consent, hand the flowers to a neighbour or concierge.
Customers often ask whether the recipient will know the flowers are from them. By default delivery is anonymous: the courier does not name the sender. If you want the person to know, sign the card, which is free and carries any text you write.
Choosing the right delivery time, in big cities and small towns
Timing is where most of the questions come from, especially when the sender is in a different time zone. For urgent orders in large cities there is express delivery in 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed. For a planned occasion you can set an exact time with a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes, choose one of the windows 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 or 18-21, or place the order 1-30 days in advance.
Our practical advice is to think about the recipient's day rather than your own. Working adults are often easiest to reach in the evening window, older parents in the morning, and offices before lunch. If the occasion is a birthday, a morning window means the bouquet is there for the whole day of celebrations. Remember that Russia spans many time zones, so check the local time of the city you are sending to.
In Saint Petersburg delivery runs around the clock, which is useful for late arrivals, night-shift workers and surprises at midnight. For other cities, the time windows above apply. If you are unsure which option suits an address, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05 before ordering.
We deliver across Russia, not only to the largest cities. In smaller towns express delivery in 1-2 hours is not always available, so it is wise to order a day or more in advance and choose a time window. Delivery to remote districts and suburbs is priced individually, and the operator confirms the cost when confirming the order, so you know the full amount before the courier sets off.
Our blog has short guides for specific towns that explain how timing works there; for example, sending flowers to Krasnokamsk from abroad and flower delivery in Vladikavkaz: zones and timing. If you do not find your town, call 8 (812) 507-67-05 and we will tell you what to expect.
Bouquets we can deliver
Paying from abroad and what the recipient needs to know
Payment is made online on the site by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. Foreign bank cards are accepted, with the payment processed via Robokassa, so you do not need a Russian card or a relative to pay on your behalf. Full details are on the delivery and payment page.
The most useful thing you can give us is a correct phone number for the recipient. The courier relies on it for the call before arrival, and in large apartment blocks it is often the only way to get through a locked entrance. Add the entrance number, floor and flat to the address, and mention anything unusual, such as a gated courtyard or an office reception.
Because the courier always calls about 15 minutes before arrival, a surprise works best when you agree it with someone close to the recipient. A spouse, flatmate or colleague can make sure the person is at home in the chosen window, and you can give their number as the contact if that suits the occasion.
Picking flowers that suit the occasion
In Russia flowers are given for birthdays, anniversaries, 8 March, the first day of school, graduations and simple thanks, and a few customs are worth knowing. Bouquets for happy occasions traditionally have an odd number of stems; even numbers are associated with funerals and remembrance, although large bouquets of many stems are treated more freely. Yellow flowers once carried a meaning of parting, but most people today simply enjoy them as a bright colour.
For parents and older relatives, our customers most often choose roses, chrysanthemums and mixed bouquets in soft colours that last well in a vase. For colleagues and clients, a neat composition in a box is easy to place on a desk and needs no vase. For romantic occasions, red and pink roses remain the clear favourite, and peonies are popular in early summer when they are in season.
Think about the recipient's home too. A very large bouquet is impressive but needs a tall vase, and some people simply do not have one; a box arrangement solves this. Strongly scented lilies are best avoided for someone with a small flat or for a hospital visit.
Writing the card
The card is free and many customers abroad find it the hardest part of the order. Keep it short: two or three lines read well on a small card, while a long letter gets cramped. You can write in English, Russian or any language the recipient reads; if you write in Russian with Latin letters, check the spelling of names carefully, because the card is printed exactly as you type it.
Sign the card in the way the recipient knows you, such as a nickname or 'your son in Berlin', so there is no confusion, especially since the courier does not name the sender. For a business occasion, add your company name and position. If the bouquet marks a date in the recipient's time zone, wording like 'Happy birthday this morning from across the sea' feels personal and explains why the flowers arrived when they did.
After the bouquet arrives
A bouquet lasts longest when the recipient puts it in water within an hour of delivery. You can add a short care note to the card text: trim the stems by a couple of centimetres at an angle, use a clean vase with lukewarm water, remove leaves below the waterline, and keep the flowers away from radiators and direct sun. Changing the water every one or two days adds several days of vase life.
In winter, flowers arrive from a cold street into a warm home, and a gradual start helps: leaving the bouquet in its wrapping for ten to fifteen minutes before unpacking lets the petals adjust. Recipients who follow these simple steps usually enjoy roses and chrysanthemums for a week or longer.
