Business Flowers: What to Send and How to Get the Details Right

A business flower gift is a bouquet or arrangement chosen for a professional occasion, such as thanking a client, congratulating a colleague or marking an office opening. Choose it around the occasion, the working relationship and the space where it will stand; a manageable size and a clear card message usually matter more than an impressive stem count.
In our Pyat Tsvetov (5 Flowers) shops, a useful starting point is what the recipient will do with the flowers when they arrive. Someone at a reception desk has different needs from a colleague leaving a meeting with a laptop bag. We have worked in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and our advice is to settle the purpose, presentation and delivery details before choosing colours.
Match the flowers to the professional occasion
For a thank-you after a meeting, keep the gesture proportionate to the help received and the relationship you already have. A modest bouquet can acknowledge someone's time without making the recipient feel obliged to respond with a gift. If a purchasing decision, tender or contract negotiation is still active, check the organisation's gift policy before sending anything.
For a promotion, work anniversary or office opening, the flowers should celebrate a specific achievement. A gift addressed to a team can suit a shared milestone, while an individual achievement deserves the person's name on the card. Write the occasion plainly so that reception staff and colleagues understand why the flowers have arrived.
For a retirement or farewell, think about the journey home as well as the presentation at work. A large bouquet may be awkward on public transport or during a crowded leaving event. Choose a scale the recipient can carry comfortably, and arrange the handover while they still have time to deal with the flowers.
Choose colour and shape before symbolic meanings
For many professional gifts, a restrained palette is easier to place in an office than several competing bright colours. White and green can look understated, while yellow, peach or mixed seasonal colours can give a celebratory impression. These are design choices, not fixed messages: the recipient's preferences and the occasion should guide the final choice.
Red roses can suggest romance, especially when sent as a single-colour bouquet with an intimate message. For a formal client relationship, choose a different palette if that interpretation would be uncomfortable. Flower symbolism varies between people and cultures, so do not expect a particular bloom to communicate thanks, respect or congratulations without a written card.
Consider the outline from the recipient's side of the desk: a tall, wide bouquet can obstruct sightlines or occupy useful working space. Strong fragrance and loose pollen can also be unwelcome in a shared room, particularly where people eat or work close together. Browse the Bouquets catalogue with size, scent and the intended location in mind, and ask about any detail the listing does not establish.

Use Russian gifting etiquette without making assumptions
In Russia, bouquets for happy occasions traditionally use an odd number of stems when the flowers are visibly counted; even numbers are associated with mourning. This matters particularly with small bouquets of a single flower type. For a mixed arrangement, explain that the gift is for a celebration and ask for guidance if the stem count is unclear.
Flowers can be suitable for recipients of any gender, but personal taste is more useful than a rule about masculine or feminine colours. A clean outline and restrained wrapping may suit someone who dislikes decorative gifts. If you know very little about the recipient, keep the arrangement moderate and the message closely tied to the professional occasion.
A recipient may have to declare a gift or decline it under workplace rules, even when your intention is simply courteous. Check the policy yourself if the organisation has strict procurement or public-sector requirements; a flower delivery does not bypass those rules. For more occasion-specific guidance, see our advice on flowers for an office opening.
Write a card that identifies the sender and the reason
A useful business card message contains the recipient's name, the reason for the gift and the sender's name or company. For example: 'Dear Anna, congratulations on the opening of your new office. With best wishes, David and the team at North Street Studio.' Keep praise specific and avoid wording that sounds like a personal declaration.
For a thank-you, name the contribution rather than describing the recipient in extravagant terms. 'Thank you for hosting our visit and taking the time to explain the project. Best wishes, Maria Ivanova' gives enough context without turning the card into a business letter. Use the language the recipient normally uses with you, and check names carefully before submitting the text.
Our delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender, so include your identity in the card when sending a professional gift. A card with your text is free. If you are sending on behalf of a group, use a recognisable team or company name rather than a list of unfamiliar first names.
Plan an office delivery to Russia
Before ordering, gather the recipient's name, phone number, full delivery address and any office access details you know. Check their working day, especially if you are arranging the gift from another country, and use the recipient's local time when planning arrival. An office address is useful only if the recipient will actually be there to receive the flowers.
We deliver flowers across Russia, with city delivery costing 500 RUB; for remote districts and suburbs, the operator confirms the price when confirming the order. In large cities, express delivery is available within 1–2 hours after the order is confirmed. You can also arrange delivery at an exact time with a tolerance of plus or minus 30 minutes, choose a 09–12, 12–15, 15–18 or 18–21 window, or pre-order 1–30 days ahead.
The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, so take that contact into account when planning a surprise during working hours. If the recipient is absent, we agree a second delivery the same day or, with the sender's consent, hand the flowers to a neighbour or concierge. Saint Petersburg delivery is available around the clock; read Delivery and payment for planning information, and check the options displayed at checkout, where online payment uses CloudPayments.
Help the flowers settle into an office
For a bouquet of cut stems, prepare a clean vase before removing the wrapping that holds the flowers together. Recut the stem ends with a clean, sharp tool and remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Put the stems into fresh water promptly, and use flower food according to the packet instructions if it is supplied.
Check the water daily and replenish it as needed; replace it when it becomes cloudy, cleaning the vase at the same time. Keep the flowers away from radiators, direct sunlight and strong airflow from heating or air-conditioning vents. Remove fading blooms and submerged plant material so they do not remain in the water with the healthy stems.
An arrangement in floral foam needs a different approach from loose stems in a vase: check the foam and add water carefully to keep it moist without overflowing the container. Do not pull stems out merely to inspect them, as reinserting them can weaken their support.
