Flower Delivery Today: What Our Florists Tell Customers Who Need Flowers Now
Flowers can be delivered today: in large Russian cities express delivery arrives 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed, and in Saint Petersburg we deliver around the clock, so even a late-night order goes out the same day. City delivery costs 500 RUB, and you can pay from abroad with a foreign bank card.
Pyat Tsvetov has run its own flower shops in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and urgent orders are a large part of our day: a forgotten birthday, good news that came this morning, an apology that cannot wait. Here are the questions customers ask most often when they need flowers today, with the answers our florists give at the counter and on the phone.
How fast is 'today' in practice
The clock starts when the order is confirmed, not when you press the pay button. Confirmation means the operator has checked the address, the bouquet and the delivery time, and from that moment express delivery in large cities takes 1-2 hours. For most same-day customers that is the simplest option: order now, flowers arrive within a couple of hours.
If the moment matters more than the speed, choose a window instead: 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 or 18-21. A window suits recipients with a predictable day, such as someone who is home after work. For a very precise moment, such as just before guests arrive, request an exact time; the courier arrives within about 30 minutes of it.
In Saint Petersburg, where our three shops are on Ilyushina Street, the Obvodny Canal Embankment and Srednerogatskaya Street, delivery runs around the clock. Customers in America or East Asia often order during their own day, which is night in Petersburg, and the bouquet still goes out without waiting for the morning.
Saint Petersburg and other cities: what to expect
We deliver across Russia, and the 500 RUB city rate covers addresses inside the city. For suburbs and remote districts the operator confirms the price when confirming the order, so if the address is in Pushkin, Kolpino or a cottage settlement outside a regional centre, expect a separate quote before payment. This is normal and depends on the distance from the city.
Time zones are the detail most customers abroad miss. Russia stretches across eleven of them, and Moscow and Saint Petersburg are on the same time, but Novosibirsk is four hours ahead and Vladivostok seven. An order placed at 17:00 Moscow time is already 00:00 in Vladivostok, so check the local hour at the recipient's address before you promise anyone flowers 'this evening'.
For the busiest dates of the year, 8 March, 14 February, 1 September and the last days of December, order earlier in the local day or pre-order 1-30 days ahead. Evening windows fill first on these dates, and an early order keeps the full catalogue open to you. Our article on ordering flowers for same-day delivery covers the holiday rush in more detail.
Bouquets we can deliver
Which bouquet to pick for an urgent order
Customers in a hurry usually ask for 'something that looks good and lasts'. Our florists then point to roses, spray roses, chrysanthemums, alstroemeria, carnations and eustoma. These flowers take a short ride and a cold doorstep in their stride, and they keep opening for several days after delivery, so the recipient enjoys them for a week or longer with basic care.
Match the bouquet to the occasion rather than to the urgency. For a birthday, bright mixes with orange, yellow and pink feel festive; for a thank-you or an apology, soft cream and pastel tones read as sincere and calm; for a colleague, a compact bouquet is easier to carry home on the metro than a large one. In the bouquets catalogue you can filter by occasion and size.
In winter, think of the few steps between the car and the entrance. Roses and chrysanthemums handle frost well, while orchids and anthuriums do not like it. For a recipient who may not have a vase ready, a bouquet in a box with a water reservoir is practical: it stands on its own and only needs topping up.
Details that save time on a same-day order
A fast delivery depends on the address being complete. Give the street, house, building number if there is one, entrance, floor, flat and intercom code. Large Petersburg blocks often have five or more entrances, and a missing entrance number can cost the courier ten minutes. If you do not know the code, a working phone number is enough.
The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, so the phone number is the most important field on the form. If it is a surprise, mention it in the comment, and the call will be about a delivery, not about who sent it. Delivery is anonymous by default anyway; to be recognised, sign the card, which is free.
Add a plan B. If the recipient is out, we arrange a second delivery the same day or, with your consent, leave the bouquet with a neighbour or the concierge. Customers who write their preference in the comment get the flowers into water sooner, because nobody has to wait for an answer.
Paying from abroad
You pay online on the site by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. Foreign bank cards are accepted through Robokassa, so a customer in Germany, Israel or Kazakhstan can pay with the card they already have. The order is confirmed once payment goes through, and that is when the delivery timing starts.
If the payment page raises a question, or you want to check that an address falls within the city rate before paying, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05. Full terms are on the delivery and payment page.
Keeping a same-day bouquet fresh
Customers often ask what to tell the recipient so the flowers last. The short version fits in the card: trim the stems by 1-2 cm at an angle, use a clean vase with cool water, remove leaves below the waterline and change the water every two days. A florist's addition: keep the vase away from radiators, which in Petersburg flats run hot from October to April, and away from the fruit bowl, since ripening fruit speeds up wilting.
If the roses arrive with tight buds, that is intentional. Flowers are delivered slightly closed so that they open in the recipient's home rather than on the way. In a warm room they open within a day or two, and that change is part of the pleasure of a fresh bouquet.
