We have run flower shops in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and a growing share of our orders now go the other way: from Russia to relatives and friends abroad, or from one country to another. The questions people ask about Florida are always the same ones, about payment, addresses, the heat and what to write, so we have collected the answers here.

Ordering to Tamarac from outside Russia

Yes. The order does not depend on where you are, only on where the flowers go. You can place it from Russia, from Florida itself or from any other country, as long as you can pay online. Foreign bank cards are accepted through Robokassa, and Russian customers can also pay by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay.

The price on the Tamarac page is shown in rubles and already includes delivery to the city, so the total you see at checkout is what you pay. Your bank will convert it into your own currency at its rate. The 500 RUB city delivery fee and the express or time-window options on our site apply to Russian cities, not to orders in the USA.

Tamarac is one of about 800 American cities on our list, alongside New York, Miami and Los Angeles. If your recipient lives in a neighbouring town in Broward County, check the USA delivery page for their city before ordering, because the bouquets available can differ from place to place. All 53 countries we deliver to are listed on the Flower delivery abroad page, which is in Russian.

Getting the address right in Tamarac

Most delivery problems in Florida come from incomplete addresses, not from the flowers. Write the full street address with the house number, the apartment or unit number if there is one, the ZIP code and the city, Tamarac, FL. Add the recipient's phone number so the courier can reach them if anything is unclear.

Tamarac has many gated residential communities and condominium complexes, a lot of them designed for residents aged 55 and over. If your recipient lives behind a gate, write the community name and any instructions for the gatehouse in the order comments. It is also worth telling the recipient, or a family member, that a delivery is coming so the gate staff are expecting it.

If you are not sure of the exact address, ask quietly through a relative rather than guessing. A wrong unit number in a large complex can easily mean flowers sitting in a lobby for hours. For any question about filling in the order, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05.

If the recipient is likely to be out, mention in the comments whether a neighbour or the front desk of the building can accept the flowers on their behalf. In Florida, flowers should never be left outside a door in the sun for long, so a person who can take them inside is worth arranging in advance.

Choosing flowers for Florida weather

South Florida is hot and humid for most of the year, and that affects how long cut flowers last once they are indoors. Homes there are usually air-conditioned, which is good for flowers, but a bouquet left on a sunny porch or in a parked car can wilt within an hour. Choose varieties that cope well with warmth if you can.

Chrysanthemums, alstroemeria, carnations, orchids and sturdy roses hold up well in warm rooms. Sunflowers and gerberas are cheerful and fairly tough, though they drink a lot of water. Delicate flowers like hydrangeas, peonies and sweet peas are lovely but lose water quickly in heat and need more attention.

Colour matters less than in Russia, where certain flowers carry strong associations. In the USA, chrysanthemums are an everyday cheerful flower rather than a funeral symbol, and there is no tradition of counting stems, so even numbers are perfectly fine. Red roses still mean romance, so for a mother or a friend we usually suggest pink, peach, white or mixed bright bouquets.

For an older recipient, think about practicalities as well as looks. A compact bouquet that fits on a side table is easier to look after than a tall arrangement, and flowers with little pollen, such as roses, carnations and orchids, are kinder to anyone with sensitive eyes or a cat in the house. Strongly scented lilies are best avoided in small apartments.

Occasions and timing

The busiest dates in the USA are Valentine's Day, Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May, Thanksgiving and the Christmas season. If you are ordering for one of these, place the order a few days early. The bouquet you want is more likely to be available, and you will have time to correct the address or the card if needed.

Birthdays and anniversaries are the most common reasons people send flowers to Tamarac from abroad, followed by get-well wishes and condolences. For a hospital or a care facility, check first whether flowers are allowed in the ward; some units restrict them. For condolences, white and soft-coloured arrangements are the standard choice, sent to the family home rather than the service.

Remember the time difference. Florida is seven hours behind Saint Petersburg in summer and eight in winter, so a delivery that is in the morning for the recipient is mid-afternoon in Russia. When you call the family to check that the flowers arrived, keep that in mind.

What to write on the card

The card is free, and you can write it in any language your recipient reads comfortably: Russian, English or something else. Many families in South Florida speak Russian at home and English outside, so think about who will actually read the card. For grandparents, Russian is usually warmer; for a younger relative or an American friend, English is simpler.

Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender, so if you want the recipient to know who the flowers are from, sign the card clearly. Short and specific works best, for example a line about a shared memory or a date. Two or three sentences are plenty.

Check the spelling of names before paying. A misspelt name on the card is the one detail recipients always notice. If you write in English for a Russian-speaking grandmother, or in Russian for an American son-in-law, consider adding one line in the other language too, so everyone at the table can read it.

Keeping the bouquet fresh in a warm climate

In a warm, humid house, water in the vase turns cloudy faster because bacteria multiply quicker. Ask your recipient to change the water every day rather than every two days, and to trim one or two centimetres off the stems at an angle each time. Leaves below the waterline should be removed, since they rot first.

Keep the vase away from direct sun, air-conditioning vents blowing straight onto the petals, and the fruit bowl. Ripening fruit gives off ethylene gas, which makes flowers age faster. A cool, shaded spot in an air-conditioned room is ideal, and with that care most bouquets last about a week.

If you also want to send flowers to someone in Russia, the bouquets catalogue works the same way. City delivery costs 500 RUB, and in Saint Petersburg, where our three shops are, delivery is around the clock. We deliver bouquets across Russia in 1–2 hours.
