How to Send Flowers to Your Girlfriend in Russia From the USA

You can send flowers to your girlfriend in Russia from the USA by ordering on our site and paying with your American bank card: foreign cards are accepted, with card payments processed through Robokassa. Choose the bouquet, give her address and phone number, set a delivery time in her local time, and the courier brings the flowers within 1-2 hours of confirmation in large cities or at the exact time you choose. City delivery costs 500 RUB.

In our Saint Petersburg shops we hear from men in the US every week, and their questions repeat: will my card work, what time should I choose, how many roses is right, and how do I make sure she is home. Below are the answers our florists give, based on fifteen years of delivering romantic bouquets in Russia.

Paying with an American card

The most common worry is payment, and it has a simple answer. Foreign bank cards, including cards issued in the US, are accepted on our site, and card payments go through Robokassa. Russian payment methods, SBP and Yandex Pay, are also available if your girlfriend or a friend in Russia wants to pay for part of a larger gift.

City delivery costs 500 RUB on top of the bouquet. If she lives in a remote district or in the suburbs, the operator confirms the delivery price when confirming the order, so you see the final amount before the courier leaves. Full details are on the Delivery and payment page; if anything is unclear, call 8 (812) 507-67-05.

What to find out before you order

A Russian address has more parts than an American one, and every part matters to the courier. You need the city, street, building number, sometimes a korpus (block) number, the entrance, the floor and the flat number. The intercom code is a bonus: many apartment blocks have locked entrances, and the courier can only get in if someone answers.

Her phone number should be in the +7 format. The courier calls about 15 minutes before arrival, and that call is how she learns that someone is at the door. If you want to keep the surprise, you can ask a friend or her sister for the address rather than asking her directly, but double-check the flat number: it is the detail most often missing from orders.

Finally, find out her plans for the day without making it obvious. The flowers can arrive when she is home in the evening, at her office, or at a friend's place where she is staying. A wrong guess is not a disaster: if she is out, we agree a second delivery the same day or, with your consent, leave the bouquet with a neighbour or concierge.

Picking the delivery time across the ocean

Moscow and Saint Petersburg are 7-8 hours ahead of the US East Coast and 10-11 hours ahead of the West Coast, depending on daylight saving time in the US. Other Russian cities are further ahead still: Yekaterinburg adds two hours to Moscow time, Novosibirsk four. Plan the delivery in her time, not yours, and never choose express late in your evening unless you want the courier at her door at dawn.

Our customers usually choose one of three options. The 09-12 window works for a weekend morning surprise. The 18-21 window is the safest on weekdays, when most people are back from work. An exact time with a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes suits a specific moment, for example right before she leaves for a date or when she wakes up on her birthday.

If she lives in Saint Petersburg, you have one more option: delivery there is around the clock, so a bouquet can arrive at midnight as her birthday begins. For every other city you can pre-order 1-30 days in advance, which we strongly recommend before February 14 and March 8. Our article on timing and bouquets for your girlfriend in Russia covers the holiday calendar.

Russian flower etiquette in a romantic bouquet

Russians count flowers. A bouquet of separate stems, such as roses or tulips, should contain an odd number: 7, 11, 15, 25 or 51. Even numbers are for funerals and graves, and while a young woman may laugh it off, her grandmother will notice. In large mixed arrangements the rule is relaxed, because nobody counts every sprig of greenery.

Colour sends a message too. Deep red roses mean love without ambiguity. Pink and peach roses, eustoma and spray roses are tender and suit the early stage of a relationship. White flowers mean purity and respect and are often chosen for proposals. Older Russians still associate yellow with separation, so an all-yellow bouquet is a risky choice for a romantic gesture; read our list of what flowers not to send to a Russian woman before you decide.

Size is a personal choice. Large bouquets of 51 or 101 roses are popular for big occasions, but many women in Russia prefer a neat, elegant arrangement they can actually lift and fit in a vase. When in doubt, choose her favourite flowers in a medium size; it shows attention, which counts more than volume.

The card: your voice in her hands

Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier hands over the bouquet without naming the sender. The card with your text is free, and for a long-distance relationship it is the most important part of the order. It is what she will keep in a drawer after the flowers have gone.

Write the way you talk to her. Two or three sentences are enough: something about the distance, a shared memory, a date you are both looking forward to. If you want to try a little Russian, 'Ya skuchayu' (I miss you) or 'Ty moya radost' (you are my joy) written in Latin letters is easy to read and always appreciated. Sign with the name she calls you, so there is no doubt who sent the flowers.

Helping the flowers last until your next call

Long-distance bouquets carry an unspoken hope: that she will still be looking at them when you talk next week. Suggest she trims the stems by 1-2 cm at an angle, removes leaves below the water line and uses a clean vase with cool water, changing it every one or two days. Russian flats are well heated in winter, so the vase should stand away from radiators and direct sun.

Roses and chrysanthemums keep their look for a week or longer with this care; tulips keep growing and opening. Ask her to send you a photo a few days later: it is a small ritual many couples enjoy, and it tells you which flowers to choose next time.
