Sending Flowers in Holland: A Practical Guide by Occasion

To send flowers in Holland with Pyat Tsvetov, open our Netherlands delivery page, choose a bouquet for one of the 6 Dutch cities we serve (among them Leiden, Zoetermeer, Hoofddorp and Alphen aan den Rijn), add the address and card text, and pay online in rubles. The price shown already includes delivery, and foreign bank cards are accepted.

Pyat Tsvetov has been making bouquets in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and many of our customers have family in Europe. The Netherlands comes up again and again: students in Leiden, relatives who moved for work near Schiphol, grandchildren in Zoetermeer. This guide is organised around what people actually ask us: which cities are covered, what to send for which Dutch occasion, what to write on the card, and how payment works if you are ordering from outside Russia.

Dutch cities on our delivery list

In the Netherlands we currently deliver to 6 cities: Alphen aan den Rijn, Bergen op Zoom, Hoofddorp, Leiden, Roosendaal and Zoetermeer. The list sits on the Netherlands page, which is part of our wider Flower delivery abroad section covering 53 countries and more than 1630 cities. The pages are in Russian, but the city names are written so you will recognise them easily.

Before you choose a bouquet, make sure the recipient's town is on the list. Dutch towns lie close together and suburbs often have their own names, so Voorschoten or Oegstgeest is not the same as Leiden for delivery purposes, even if it is a ten-minute bike ride. If the city you need is missing, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05 and we will tell you what is possible.

Have the full address ready: street, house number with any addition (12-A, 12 hs), and the postcode of four digits plus two letters, such as 2316 XB. Add the recipient's mobile number, which in the Netherlands begins with +31 6.

What to send for Dutch occasions

Birthdays are the most common reason. In the Netherlands a birthday is a home celebration where relatives drop in throughout the day, so flowers that arrive in the morning are on display for every visitor. A bright mixed bouquet or roses in a single strong colour suit almost anyone.

King's Day on 27 April turns the country orange. A bouquet with orange roses, tulips or gerberas is a playful nod to the holiday for someone who has just moved there or a Dutch friend who loves it. Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May, as in many countries, and is a busy flower day; ordering several days ahead is wise.

Winter has its own rhythm. Sinterklaas on 5 December matters more to Dutch families with children than Christmas presents do, and Christmas itself is quieter and cosier. In December, deep red roses, white bouquets or anything with greenery feel right. For a new home, a new job or a newborn, soft pastel colours are a safe, cheerful choice, and for condolences choose white flowers and a short, simple message.

Short card phrases in Dutch

A few Dutch words on the card are a lovely touch, even if the rest is in English or Russian. For a birthday: Van harte gefeliciteerd! (Warmest congratulations!) or Gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag (Happy birthday). For someone unwell: Beterschap, which simply means get well soon. To sign off warmly: Veel liefs, meaning lots of love.

For a new baby you can write Gefeliciteerd met jullie kleine wonder (Congratulations on your little miracle). For condolences the Dutch word is Sterkte, wishing the person strength; it is short, sincere and widely used. Pair it with the sender's name and nothing more.

The card with your text is free. Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender. If you want your name known, sign the card; if it is a secret admirer situation, leave it unsigned and let the flowers do the talking.

Paying from abroad and what the price includes

All prices on the Netherlands page are in rubles and already include delivery, so there is no separate fee to add at checkout. You pay online on the site: by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. Foreign bank cards are accepted, with payment processed through Robokassa, so ordering from Germany, the UK or the Netherlands itself works the same way as from Russia.

Your bank will convert rubles into your own currency at its rate, and the final figure on your statement may differ slightly from what you expected. That is normal for any purchase in another currency and does not mean an extra charge from us.

One thing to keep apart: the 500 RUB city delivery fee, express delivery in 1-2 hours and the time windows described on our Delivery and payment page apply to Russian cities. For the Netherlands, delivery is part of the bouquet price; if the date matters, write it clearly in the order and call us to confirm.

Planning ahead and practical timing

Order at least a few days before the date when you can, and earlier for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and King's Day. Popular flowers and colours go first on busy days, and an early order leaves room to adjust if something in the address needs checking.

Think about the recipient's week. Many Dutch people work four days and keep one weekday for children or errands, and students in Leiden may spend days in lectures and evenings in the library. A quick message asking 'will you be home on Thursday?' rarely gives away the surprise and saves the bouquet from waiting at a closed door.

Finally, attach a word of care. Dutch homes are warm and bright: flowers last longest away from radiators, direct sun and the fruit bowl, in cool water changed every two days, with stems trimmed at an angle. Tulips keep growing in the vase and bend towards the light, so a tall vase suits them best.

And if your loved ones are in Saint Petersburg

Many of our Dutch-based customers also send flowers the other way, to parents and friends in Saint Petersburg. Here we work from three of our own flower shops, on Ilyushina Street, Obvodny Canal Embankment and Srednerogatskaya Street, and delivery in Saint Petersburg is around the clock.

Within the city, delivery costs 500 RUB; for remote districts and suburbs the operator confirms the price when confirming the order. You can choose express delivery in 1-2 hours after confirmation, an exact time plus or minus 30 minutes, a window such as 09-12 or 18-21, or a pre-order 1-30 days ahead. The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival. Browse the full bouquets catalogue to see what we make.

Whichever direction your flowers travel, the questions are the same: the right address, the right moment and a few honest words on the card. If anything is unclear, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05 and we will help you put the order together.
