Flowers to Your Door: Sending a Bouquet in Russia

Pyat Tsvetov (5 Flowers) delivers flowers to your door across Russia, whether you are ordering for yourself or sending a gift from abroad. City delivery costs 500 RUB; for remote districts and suburbs, the operator confirms the price when confirming the order. Express delivery in large cities takes 1–2 hours after confirmation, with scheduled options available too.

In our shops, customers often begin with the recipient's routine: when they will be home, which flowers they enjoy and whether the sender should be named. Those details shape a useful order as much as the bouquet itself. We have been working since 2011 and have three flower shops in Saint Petersburg, on Ilyushina St., Obvodny Canal Embankment and Srednerogatskaya St. This guide covers the choices that help a gift reach someone comfortably, including when you are arranging it from another country.

Choose flowers for the person and the room

Start with flowers or colours the recipient already likes, then consider where the bouquet will stand. A broad arrangement can be awkward on a crowded desk, while a tall bouquet needs a vase that supports its stems. Look through the bouquets catalogue with the recipient's space in mind. The most useful comparison is between bouquets they can comfortably display and enjoy.

Scent deserves particular attention when flowers are going to a bedroom or a shared workspace. Some lilies and other flowers can have a pronounced fragrance, so mention any known sensitivity when discussing your choice. For a household with cats, avoid lilies because they are highly toxic to them. If you are unsure about another plant, check its identity and suitability before choosing it for a home with pets.

Seasonal appearance also affects how people read a bouquet: soft colours may feel gentle, while strong contrasts can make a more emphatic gift. These are visual impressions, not fixed rules about what each flower means. A recipient's favourite yellow flowers are usually a better choice than a colour selected from an unfamiliar symbolism chart. Use their taste as the starting point and the occasion as a guide to scale.

Make the message clear, especially across cultures

For a birthday, congratulations or a simple thank-you, the card can carry the meaning that flowers alone cannot explain. Name the occasion and add one personal detail, such as a shared memory or something you appreciate about the recipient. A short, specific message feels more natural than several formal lines copied from a greeting. A card with your text is free.

In Russia, an odd number of flowers is customary for celebratory gifts when individual stems are being counted. Even numbers are traditionally associated with mourning, although counting is less straightforward in mixed bouquets with many branching stems. If this custom matters to the recipient, raise it when choosing the bouquet. For condolences, follow the family's preferences rather than applying birthday-gift conventions.

Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not name the sender. If you want the recipient to know who sent the flowers, include your name in the card text. For an intentionally unsigned gift, consider whether the recipient would welcome the uncertainty. An unexpected bouquet can be pleasant, but a clear message is often kinder when the relationship or occasion could otherwise be misunderstood.

Match the delivery time to the recipient's day

Choose a time when the recipient can answer the phone and receive the bouquet without interrupting something important. For an office delivery, check their working day and any building access arrangements before ordering. For a home delivery, think about school runs, commuting and appointments. When ordering from abroad, keep the recipient's local time in view so a convenient hour for you does not become an awkward arrival for them.

In large cities, express delivery is available within 1–2 hours after the order is confirmed. Other options are delivery at an exact time with a tolerance of plus or minus 30 minutes, or within the windows 09–12, 12–15, 15–18 and 18–21. You can also pre-order 1–30 days ahead. Choose the option that fits the recipient's availability, allowing for the stated timing tolerance when planning a celebration.

Saint Petersburg delivery operates around the clock; this should not be assumed for other destinations. If flowers need to arrive before someone leaves home, leave room between the delivery period and their departure. The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, so a working phone number is essential. The delivery and payment information is a useful reference while arranging the order.

Prepare the address and complete checkout from abroad

Before ordering, collect the recipient's full address and a telephone number they can answer. Include the city, street, building and flat or office number, along with relevant entrance details. Check any copied address carefully, particularly when switching between Latin and Cyrillic spelling. A complete address helps avoid uncertainty about similarly named streets or different entrances within the same building.

City delivery costs 500 RUB. For remote districts and suburbs, the operator confirms the delivery price when confirming the order, so do not apply the city charge to an address outside that area. Check the destination and requested timing together before relying on a particular plan. For questions about the arrangement, call 8 (812) 507-67-05.

Online checkout uses CloudPayments. If you are ordering from another country, check the payment options displayed at checkout for your situation. Acceptance of every foreign card cannot be promised, so avoid treating payment as settled until checkout confirms the outcome. Keep the order details available so you can refer to the same bouquet, address and requested time if you need to ask a question.

Plan the handover before making it a surprise

A surprise works best when the recipient is unaware of the gift but still able to receive it. You can check that they will be home without explaining the entire plan. Give their own reachable number so the courier's call about 15 minutes before arrival reaches the person at the door. Bear in mind that this call may reveal the delivery shortly before the flowers arrive.

If the recipient is not there, we agree a second delivery the same day or handing the flowers to a neighbour or concierge with the sender's consent. Consider in advance whether either person would be a suitable recipient on their behalf. Access to a building alone does not establish permission to leave the bouquet with someone. The sender's consent is part of arranging that alternative handover.

Avoid building your plan around flowers waiting unattended outside a door. Direct sun, passing traffic and a long delay before someone returns can all make that a poor place for a bouquet. If the recipient's schedule is uncertain, choose a more suitable delivery period or discuss the handover arrangement. Our guide to what happens when nobody answers the door explains the situation in more detail.

Help the bouquet settle in after delivery

Prepare a clean vase before unwrapping and fill it with fresh water. Remove leaves that would sit below the waterline, then trim the stem ends with a clean, sharp tool before placing them in water. Take off transport wrapping that prevents the stems from sitting properly in the vase. If decorative binding holds the bouquet's shape, avoid pulling it apart unnecessarily while arranging the stems.

Place the bouquet away from radiators, direct sunlight and draughts, and keep it clear of ripening fruit. Check the water daily, top it up as needed and replace it when it becomes cloudy. Clean the vase when changing the water, and remove fading flowers or submerged plant material. If flower food is supplied, follow its packet instructions rather than guessing the amount.

Different flowers open and fade at different rates, so a mixed bouquet will change as it stands. Remove individual stems as they finish and rearrange the remaining flowers in a smaller vase when useful. Do not leave the bouquet without water while looking for the perfect display spot; getting the stems into water comes first. If you are sending to someone who may be busy, add a brief care reminder to your personal message.
