Flowers for a Work Promotion: How to Order Them Properly
To order flowers for someone celebrating a promotion at work, choose a confident, structured bouquet rather than a romantic one, decide whether it goes to the office or to their home, and book a delivery time that lands on the day of the news or their first day in the new role. Add a short card with your name, since many deliveries are anonymous by default. With Pyat Tsvetov you can do all of this online and we deliver across Russia; city delivery costs 500 RUB.
In our shops in Saint Petersburg, promotion bouquets are one of the most common business orders, and customers ask about the same things: whether flowers to an office are appropriate, which colours look professional, how big is too big and what to put on the card. Below are the answers we give at the counter, including how to arrange it all if you are ordering from another country.
Office or home: decide where the flowers should go
Delivery to the workplace makes the congratulations visible, and that is often the point: colleagues see the bouquet, and the person gets a moment of recognition. It suits promotions that have been announced openly and offices where flowers on a desk are normal. If the promotion is not yet public, or the recipient is private about their career, send the bouquet home instead.
For an office delivery, give us the recipient's full name, the company name, the exact address with building, entrance and floor, and the recipient's mobile number. The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival, which helps a lot in business centres with reception desks and security passes. If the recipient is in a meeting or has left early, we agree a second delivery the same day or, with your consent, hand the flowers to the reception desk, which plays the role of a concierge in most business centres.
Home delivery works well when you want something more personal, for example from a parent, partner or close friend. It also avoids the awkward moment of carrying a large bouquet on the metro after work. In that case an evening window, 18-21, usually catches the person at home.
Which flowers say congratulations, not romance
For a work occasion, avoid the classic armful of long red roses, which reads as romantic in Russia as much as anywhere else. Red carnations are also best left out, because they are closely tied to Victory Day and commemorations. Instead choose bouquets in clear, energetic colours: white and green, sunny yellow and orange, blue and white, or a deep burgundy and cream combination for someone senior.
Structure matters as much as colour. Compact, upright arrangements with roses, chrysanthemums, eustoma, alstroemeria and plenty of greenery look tidy on a desk and do not take over the room. For a man, a bouquet built around one or two colours with firm stems, such as hypericum, roses and eucalyptus, usually works better than a large pastel composition. Browse the bouquets catalogue with this in mind and pick something that would look good on the recipient's actual desk.
Keep an eye on the number of stems in small bouquets. In Russia an odd number is given for happy occasions, and an even number is associated with funerals. In large mixed bouquets nobody counts, but with seven or eleven roses the number is obvious. White can be very elegant for a promotion if it is fresh and mixed with greenery; our note on white flowers for Russian celebrations explains when it works best.
Bouquets we can deliver
Timing: when the bouquet should arrive
The best moment is the day the promotion is announced or the first working day in the new position. A bouquet that arrives a week later still says congratulations, but it loses the sense of shared excitement. If you know the date in advance, pre-order: we take orders 1 to 30 days ahead, so you can arrange everything while it is on your mind.
For an office, choose the morning window, 09-12, or the midday window, 12-15. The recipient then enjoys the flowers through the working day and has time to put them in water. Avoid late Friday afternoon if the bouquet will stay at the office, because it will spend the weekend in a closed room with the heating on. You can also ask for an exact time, with a margin of plus or minus 30 minutes, for example to coincide with a team meeting.
If you only heard the news today, express delivery in large cities takes 1 to 2 hours after the order is confirmed. In Saint Petersburg delivery runs around the clock, so even late news can still be celebrated the same evening at home. For other cities, the time windows are listed on the delivery and payment page.
What to write on the card
Delivery is anonymous by default, so the courier will not say who sent the flowers. For a promotion that is rarely what you want: write your name, or the name of your team or company, at the end of the card. The card with your text is free, and it is worth taking a minute over it.
Keep the message short and specific. Good examples: "Congratulations on your new role, Anna. Well deserved, and the team is lucky to have you leading it." Or from family: "So proud of you, Dima. All those late evenings paid off. Love, Mum and Dad." Mention the role or a quality you admire rather than general wishes for happiness and success, which read like a template.
If the recipient's colleagues read Russian better than English, you can write the card in Russian or in both languages. For a formal business relationship, such as a client company, use the full name and position and sign with your name and company. Jokes about salary or the old boss are best left for the celebration drinks, not the card on the desk.
Ordering from abroad, step by step
Many of these orders come from people outside Russia: a sister in London congratulating her brother in Moscow, a former manager in Dubai, a foreign company thanking a Russian colleague. The process is the same as for a local customer. You choose a bouquet on the site, enter the recipient's details and the delivery address, choose the date and time window, write the card text and pay online.
Foreign bank cards are accepted, with the payment processed through Robokassa; Russian bank cards, SBP and Yandex Pay work as well. City delivery costs 500 RUB, and for remote districts and suburbs the operator confirms the price when confirming the order. Keep the recipient's mobile number handy, because the courier relies on it to find the right floor and office.
If you want the bouquet to be a surprise, do not warn the recipient, but do make sure the phone number is correct; our guide to ordering flowers for someone in Russia without telling them covers the details. For anything unusual, such as a delivery to a closed business centre or several bouquets for a team, call us on 8 (812) 507-67-05 before placing the order.
Flowers from a team or from the boss
When a whole team is sending flowers, one person should place the order and sign the card with the team's name, so the recipient knows it was a joint gesture. A larger bouquet or an arrangement that can stand on a shelf is appropriate here, since it represents several people. Collect the names in advance if you want everyone listed on the card.
A manager congratulating a direct report should keep the gesture proportionate: a neat, medium-sized bouquet and a warm but professional card. It is a public sign of appreciation, and it works best when it matches what the company does for other promotions. For a senior appointment at a client company, a restrained, elegant bouquet in white, green or deep tones signed by the head of your company is the classic choice.
