How to Order Flowers in Moscow from Abroad or from Another City

To order flowers in Moscow, choose a bouquet in our online catalogue, enter the recipient's name, phone number and address, pick express delivery or a time window, and pay online - a foreign bank card works as well as a Russian one. City delivery costs 500 RUB, and in a large city like Moscow express delivery takes 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed.

Pyat Tsvetov has run flower shops in Saint Petersburg since 2011, and many of our customers send flowers not only within our city but to relatives and friends in Moscow and other parts of Russia. The questions they ask on the phone are always similar: how fast, how to pay from abroad, what to write on the card and how to avoid a failed delivery. Here are the answers, in the order they usually come up.

Step by step: placing a Moscow order online

Start in the bouquets catalogue and choose by occasion and size rather than by photo alone. A bouquet for a birthday at home can be generous; one for an office or a hotel room is better compact, or in a box, so it does not need a vase immediately. Then fill in the recipient's details: full name, a mobile number that will be answered, and the complete address with building, entrance, floor and flat. Moscow residential complexes often have several buildings with the same street number, so the building and entrance number save a lot of time.

Next, choose the delivery option and write the card. Pay online by bank card, SBP or Yandex Pay. Foreign bank cards are accepted, with payment via Robokassa, so you can order from Europe, Israel, the US or anywhere else without asking someone in Russia to pay for you. After payment the operator confirms the order; for addresses in remote districts or beyond the city limits the operator confirms the delivery price at that stage.

Check the recipient's phone number twice. It is the single most common reason for delays: the courier calls before arriving, and if the number is wrong or switched off, the bouquet cannot be handed over on time.

Delivery times in Moscow: express, exact time or pre-order

Moscow is a large city, so express delivery is available: 1-2 hours after the order is confirmed. It is the right choice when you remember a birthday in the morning or want to react to good news the same day. Keep in mind that the clock starts from confirmation, not from the moment you press the button.

If the moment matters - flowers at breakfast, before a meeting, at a restaurant table - book an exact time. We deliver within 30 minutes either side of the time you choose. For less strict plans, choose one of the windows: 09-12, 12-15, 15-18 or 18-21. For people who work during the day, the 18-21 window at home is usually the most reliable.

For birthdays, anniversaries, 8 March and other fixed dates, pre-order 1 to 30 days ahead. Our article on flowers online delivery in Russia has more on choosing between these options.

What happens on the day of delivery

The courier calls the recipient about 15 minutes before arrival. This short call is useful in Moscow: it gives the person time to come down, open the gate of a gated complex or tell the courier which entrance to use. If you are planning a surprise, warn a family member who will be at home, or choose a time when you know the recipient will answer an unknown number.

If nobody is there, the bouquet is not left on the doorstep. We agree a second delivery on the same day, or, if you consent, hand the flowers to a neighbour or a concierge. Many Moscow apartment buildings and business centres have a concierge or reception desk, so this is often the easiest solution for office deliveries.

Delivery is anonymous by default: the courier does not say who sent the flowers. That suits a secret admirer, but for a birthday or a thank-you you will want the recipient to know - so sign the card. More ideas for planned surprises are in our guide to ordering flowers for someone in Russia without telling them.

Writing the card for a Moscow recipient

The card with your text is free, and it is worth using well. Two or three sentences are enough: the occasion, a warm wish and your name. If the recipient reads Russian more comfortably than English, you can write the text in Russian; a short message in the recipient's own language often means more to an older relative than a long one in English.

Avoid jokes that need context, especially in an office where colleagues will read the card. For a business contact, mention the occasion and sign with your name and company. For family, a familiar form of address and a line about missing them is usually what people remember.

Plan the card together with the timing. A message such as "Good morning and happy birthday!" reads strangely if the flowers arrive in the 18-21 window, so match the wording to the delivery option you chose. If the bouquet is for a celebration where many guests will be present, such as an anniversary dinner, keep the card short and personal and leave the long wishes for a phone call.

Russian flower etiquette worth knowing before you order

The rule customers from abroad most often do not know concerns numbers. For a living person, a small bouquet should contain an odd number of flowers - 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and so on. Even numbers are brought to funerals and memorials. In large bouquets of more than a dozen stems the count is treated more loosely, but for a modest gift keep it odd.

Colour and flower choice also carry meaning. Red roses are romantic and are best kept for a partner. For a mother, grandmother or teacher, choose softer pinks, peach, white or mixed seasonal bouquets. Yellow flowers have shed their old association with separation and are now read as cheerful, but some older people still remember it, so for a senior recipient a mixed bouquet is the safer choice.

Men in Russia receive flowers too, for birthdays, anniversaries and professional milestones. A restrained palette - white, green, blue, deep burgundy - and a structured shape work best. Bouquets for 8 March, the biggest flower day of the year, should be pre-ordered several days in advance, so the date and time are fixed well before the holiday.

Practical questions before you pay

Customers paying from abroad often ask about documents. If you need confirmation of payment for accounting or reimbursement, see our article on receipts and invoices for flower orders. For delivery to a hotel, give the full hotel name, the guest's name exactly as booked and, if you know it, the room number; if the guest is out, the bouquet can be left at reception with your consent.
